Start with the required functions and the ordering diagram for the exact HDA family. Record the complete proposed code, indicator, body size, nominal port, drain and cup options where applicable, then separately confirm the actual thread, operating duty and supplied items. The catalogue’s HDAC30-03 and HDACE30-03D-1 examples show why a body size or port number alone is not a complete specification. Ask XMC to resolve unknown fields before ordering.
Start with the correct family and function
The HDA catalogue has separate ordering diagrams. Printed page 48 identifies HDAC as filter + regulator + lubricator (F+R+L); page 50 identifies HDAC-A as filter-regulator + lubricator (FR+L). HDAF is a filter, HDAR a regulator, HDAL a lubricator and HDAW a combined filter-regulator. [1] Both HDAC combinations include lubrication. Confirm the downstream equipment needs added oil before selecting either. Two pieces does not mean two functions or an oil-free outlet.
Read two printed HDAC examples
Printed page 48 gives HDAC30-03 and HDACE30-03D-1 as examples. Both refer to the HDAC three-piece F+R+L arrangement, size 30 and nominal 3/8 port. The second example also shows the square-gauge E option, automatic-drain D option and A-series cup and protective-cover option 1. The page describes HDAC30-03 with double cover plate, polycarbonate cup and protective cover, and air-shutoff drain. This is a catalogue reading exercise, not a quotation or approval. Confirm the complete configuration and applicability for the order with XMC. [1]
| Field | HDAC30-03 | HDACE30-03D-1 | Confirm before order |
|---|---|---|---|
| Family and size | Three-piece F+R+L; size 30 | Same family and size | Does the equipment require these functions and added oil? |
| Nominal port | 03: 3/8 inch | 03: 3/8 inch | Thread standard, seal and mating fitting at each port. |
| Indicator | Double cover plate in the example | E: square gauge | Supplied indicator and installation clearance. |
| Drain | Air-shutoff drain in the example | D: automatic drain | Exact operation, duty and discharge arrangement. |
| Cup and cover | Polycarbonate cup and protective cover | 1: A-series cup and protective cover | Materials, exposure, drawing and current availability. |
Interpret a letter in its family and position
On the printed HDAC diagram E denotes a square gauge, G a round gauge and EP an embedded pressure switch. G in this gauge position does not identify the port thread. On printed page 50, A after the body size identifies the two-piece FR+L combination, while 1 in the later cup field means an A-series cup and protective cover. These are separate choices. Do not apply the same character as a universal decoder for another family or an unlisted suffix. Confirm ambiguous or undocumented codes with XMC. [1]
Confirm the complete port interface
The size-30 HDAC, HDAF, HDAR, HDAL and HDAW tables include 02 (1/4) and 03 (3/8) nominal port entries. [1] The fraction does not establish the complete thread standard or sealing arrangement. Give the supplier the required inlet and outlet connections separately, together with the mating fitting designation or drawing. Mark the standard unknown if necessary. A matching nominal port does not establish flow capacity or mounting compatibility.
Use the ordering page for the purchasing object
The HDAF filter page contains size, port, drain and cup fields; the HDAL lubricator page contains size, port and cup fields. The HDAR regulator page includes indicator and backflow-related fields, while the HDAW filter-regulator has its own ordering diagram. [1] Do not copy every option or its position between families. Read the original diagram for the complete model and compare it with the quoted items. Ask the supplier to resolve any unclear diagram or example rather than guessing characters.
| Page | Object | Fields to review | What still needs confirmation |
|---|---|---|---|
| 48 | HDAC F+R+L | Indicator, body, port, drain, cup / cover | Configuration and option applicability. |
| 50 | HDAC-A FR+L | Arrangement, indicator, body, port, drain, cup / cover | Whether lubrication is needed; supplied options. |
| 52 | HDAF filter | Body, port, drain, cup / cover | Thread standard and supplied service items. |
| 54 | HDAR regulator | Indicator, body, backflow-related option, port | Ambiguous code position and switch details. |
| 56 | HDAL lubricator | Body, port, cup / cover | Oil requirement and low-duty flow suitability. |
| 58 | HDAW filter-regulator | Indicator, body, backflow-related option, port, drain, cup / cover | Exact model, options and supplied interfaces. |
Confirm drain, cup and indicator for the duty
The page 48 size-30 examples distinguish an air-shutoff drain from the D automatic-drain option. Those names do not provide every opening condition, discharge-piping limit or suitability for continuous operation. Record the pressure cycle, intended discharge route and maintenance responsibility, then request the applicable instructions. For the cup and cover, send expected ambient conditions and chemical exposure and request material suitability. Check indicator visibility and any switch requirements in the installation. Do not infer chemical compatibility or an approved cleaning method from appearance.
Attach the operating evidence
A complete code is only part of a specification. Supply actual inlet pressure, required outlet pressure at the user, low and peak demand with units and reference conditions, temperature, duty pattern, installation envelope and filter requirement. If lubrication is included, send equipment lubrication instructions and the lowest operating demand. Ask XMC to review the selected model against those conditions. Do not treat minimum oil-mist flow as maximum capacity, an idle gauge setting as proof of flowing performance, or a similar family name as replacement approval.
Use a complete configuration handover record
The following is a suggested purchasing worksheet, not a live configurator or a list of guaranteed options. Preserve the quote revision, source for each confirmed field and the person responsible for unknowns. Send the whole record together so that a code, drawing and verbal option choice do not describe different revisions.
| Purchasing field | Evidence to attach | Status or decision |
|---|---|---|
| Duty and family | Required functions, catalogue page and proposed family | Confirmed / unknown / supplier confirmation required. |
| Complete configuration | Supplier-proposed full code, indicator, size, port, drain and cup where applicable | Record quote revision; resolve ambiguous characters. |
| Inlet and outlet | Thread standards, seals, fitting drawing and proposed adapters | Confirm both interfaces separately. |
| Operating conditions | Inlet and required outlet pressure, flow with reference conditions, temperature and duty | Obtain a model-specific review. |
| Installation and service | Mounting drawing, space, discharge route, environment and service items | Confirm supplied hardware and applicable instructions. |
| Commercial scope | Quantity, destination and requested documents | Confirm scope and current availability. |
Catalogue reference and scope
The example and field descriptions are limited to the XMC HDA catalogue dated 21 June 2025, printed pages 48, 50, 52, 54, 56 and 58. The worksheet organizes a purchasing review; it is not a manufacturer-approved code generator or a promise of stock, compatibility or performance. Obtain a supplier-confirmed complete code and applicable drawing for the actual configuration. [1]
Questions buyers ask.
Does G in the HDAC gauge field mean a G-thread port?
No. The printed HDAC diagram uses G for a round pressure-gauge option. Confirm the exact inlet and outlet thread standards and seals separately.
Does HDAC30A remove the lubricator?
No. The catalogue identifies HDAC-A as a two-piece filter-regulator plus lubricator combination. HDAW alone is a combined filter-regulator; determine the actual lubrication requirement first.
Can I add D to every HDA size?
Do not assume option applicability from a letter alone. Check the selected family and body-size table, operating conditions and supplier-confirmed configuration.
Is an air-shutoff drain the same as the D automatic-drain option?
The page 48 size-30 examples distinguish air-shutoff drainage from the D automatic-drain option. Confirm exact operating and discharge instructions for the proposed model.
What if a code diagram and example seem inconsistent?
Keep the field unresolved and ask XMC to confirm the full model and quotation. Do not rearrange a suffix or borrow another family’s code.
