Compare HDAW with separate HDAF and HDAR modules by drawing the complete F+R air path, checking the model-specific dimensions and defining pressure-test and service access. HDAW combines filtration and regulation in one unit. Separate modules make their external connection a design item that must be specified. Neither arrangement adds a lubricator by itself, establishes an oil-free outlet class or has a proven performance advantage merely from the housing count.

Define an F+R-only requirement before comparing layouts

This comparison concerns a branch that needs filtration and pressure regulation without adding an oil-mist lubricator. HDAF supplies the filter function, HDAR the regulator function, and HDAW combines the two. [1] The general filter-regulator definition also appears in Festo's air-preparation guidance. [2] HDAC and HDAC-A are different purchasing objects: both include lubrication, as the existing two-piece/three-piece guide explains. Use the equipment's actual air-quality requirements to decide whether the proposed F+R treatment is sufficient; omitting HDAL does not establish a residual-oil limit or a complete air-quality class.

Use the individual drawings rather than adding catalogue widths

Printed pages 53, 55 and 59 show HDAF, HDAR and HDAW dimensions separately. In the size-30 rows, the drawing dimension A is 53 mm for each individual unit, while dimension B differs. [1] The table below is a drawing-reference exercise. A pair of 53 mm bodies is not a confirmed 106 mm installed station: the connector, seals, fittings, mounting and spacing are not defined by adding two table cells. Likewise, the HDAW dimension does not state how much room is needed to remove its bowl or turn its adjustment knob.

Decide whether an intermediate pressure measurement is needed

For a separate filter and regulator, draw the external segment between the HDAF outlet and HDAR inlet. If the maintenance plan requires pressure measurement after the filter but before regulation, specify an appropriate test connection in that segment and ask XMC to confirm its implementation. It is not automatically included with the two modules. The HDAW selection drawing does not identify an external measurement port between its internal filtering and regulating functions. Do not assume that the visible gauge provides that measurement, or propose drilling or modifying a housing to add one. Choose the required observation points first, then obtain the supported arrangement.

Map inlet, intermediate and outlet observations to a purpose

A useful drawing labels the upstream pressure before treatment, any confirmed intermediate test point, and the controlled outlet pressure. Record the operating demand and measurement location with each reading. A separate intermediate point, where implemented, can help distinguish conditions after the filter from those at the regulated outlet; the reading still needs a defined operating state. An HDAW inlet/outlet comparison covers the combined unit rather than isolating an internal stage. Do not turn either observation into a universal fault diagnosis without the applicable model data.

Quote the connections and mounting as part of the architecture

For the separate layout, request two complete module codes plus the proposed connection method, seals, supports and any measuring connection. State whether the modules will be supplied as separate items or as a supplier-confirmed assembly. A matching body number or port size does not identify a suitable coupling. For HDAW, specify the one complete filter-regulator code, inlet/outlet fittings and mounting items. In either case, annotate the thread and sealing arrangement at each interface. Include a drawing revision in the inquiry so a later change of connector or gauge cannot silently invalidate the layout review.

Keep filtration, regulator options and drain choices visible

The HDAF and HDAW pages both list a 25 micrometre standard element, with 5 and 50 micrometre options. Their drain and bowl selections remain part of the complete model. HDAR and HDAW each have their own gauge/switch and backflow-function ordering fields. [1] Confirm the requested function on the quoted code instead of assuming that every configuration includes it. A separate layout does not automatically improve filtration, and an integrated layout does not remove the need for a drain plan. For a continuously pressurized branch, distinguish drainage on air shutoff from the specified automatic-drain option.

Review capacity and service scope without awarding a housing-count winner

The catalogue gives HDAF pressure-loss curves separately from the regulated-output flow curves for HDAR and HDAW. [1] Review them for the correct size, pressure conditions and required demand; do not compare different vertical-axis quantities as if they were one capacity rating. The separate layout also includes the effects of its selected connection path. For maintenance, identify the replacement item and access needed for each fault: a filter element, drain, regulator or complete unit are different scopes. Ask for the supplied service instructions and compatible parts. Separate modules do not establish that work may be performed while pressurized, and integration does not prove that the whole unit must always be replaced.

A drawing-led purchasing example

Suppose a hypothetical machine panel needs filtration and regulation, has a limited vertical envelope, and its maintenance team wants a pressure test after filtration. HDAW30 and a separate HDAF30/HDAR30 arrangement can be reviewed as candidates, not approved alternatives. The separate path needs a confirmed intermediate measuring connection and assembled drawing. The HDAW path needs confirmation of how the requested measurement could be achieved; its normal gauge must not be relabelled as that point. Compare the completed drawings and supported test plan, not just the three individual dimension rows. Send the operating flow, lowest inlet pressure, required outlet pressure, air-quality need, drain cycle, allowed envelope and service task with the inquiry.

Catalogue and technical references

The dimension entries, functions and ordering fields above come from XMC's HDA selection pages. The measurement worksheet is a proposed design-review method, not a claim that a particular coupling or test point is available. Obtain the complete arrangement from XMC before treating any drawing example as an orderable station. Festo is cited for the general combined filter-regulator definition only; its accessories and performance are not transferred to HDA.

Questions buyers ask.

Is HDAW the same as an HDA two-piece FRL?

HDAW is the combined filter-regulator module. The two-piece HDAC-A arrangement also includes an HDAL lubricator. A requirement for F+R without added lubrication should be specified separately.

Can HDAF30 and HDAR30 be joined directly because their size numbers match?

Do not assume a connection method or included connector. Ask XMC to confirm the complete models, coupling or piping, seals, supports and assembled dimensions.

Does the HDAW gauge measure pressure between its filter and regulator?

The cited selection drawing does not identify that external intermediate measurement point. Ask for the supported measurement arrangement for the exact model and gauge option.

Is an integrated HDAW always shorter or narrower when installed?

Compare the actual completed layout. The individual dimensions exclude some installation decisions, including fittings, mounting, service access and any additional measuring connections. No fixed space-saving percentage is established here.

Which layout has less pressure loss?

Housing count does not answer this. Review the relevant model curves and the entire connection path at the required inlet pressure, outlet requirement and demand. HDAF filter loss and regulator outlet-pressure behaviour are different measurements.
